As Christians, we rejoice in the knowledge that through the gospel, we have been restored to right relationship with our Creator. A healthy relationship with someone by its very nature requires an intimate knowledge of the person we enter into communion with. We come to know the person and seek to grow in greater knowledge of them through our time together, and as a result we grow closer as our relationship flourishes.
For Christians to embrace the truth that we have entered into relationship with our God, we submit to the belief that he can be known to us. We believe that he has gifted to us the revelation of himself through his Spirit, his Church, and his living and active word found in the Scriptures.
Enter theology.
Theology is not only for the pastor, the scholar, or the seminary student. Theology is by definition the study of God, and as Christians we are all sons, daughters, and students of our gracious God. It’s not a matter of if we have a theology but instead our theology reveals what we know about him, and how that shapes our walk in relationship to and with him.
This year, we will endeavor to cultivate our relationship with God in our Sunday School setting, and it is our hope that in so doing foster an environment which lends to greater family discipleship opportunities. In hopes of accomplishing this, the same resource will be used in both the high school and adult settings. Tim Challies and Josh Byers have teamed up in an effort to provide a resource to help us understand new and sometimes difficult concepts. In Visual Theology, they present the “concepts and principles of systematic theology in a fresh, beautiful, and transformative way. Using graphic displays and text that go hand in hand, this unique resource helps you connect the truth of the Bible to life application.”
We would love for you to join us as we embark on this endeavor, seeking to come to know our God as he has revealed himself, and to grow in our relationship with him and one another.
